THOMAS: So just to be clear, did you talk to the President at all about your decision regarding the recommendations?BARR: The recommendations on this case? Never.
You think this statement gives Barr room to have talked to Trump about the reaction to his recommendations?
Talking about the reaction to his decision isn't talking about his decision, at all?
“You think this statement gives Barr room to have talked to Trump about the reaction to his recommendations?
Talking about the reaction to his decision isn’t talking about his decision, at all?”
Barr could have called up Trump right after those tweets went up and the $hitstorm started. He could have said to him “if you continue this, I will be spending most of my time under investigation, not doing my real job. Regardless of what happens to Stone, this stuff has to stop, and we need to find a way to make it stop soon. Here’s what I suggest....”
No need to talk about the details of Stone’s treatment before trial, details of the trial or the sentencing. Just, “help me do my job by not spouting off on active cases and DoJ employees.”
Now, note that I said “not necessarily.” I was certainly not a party to their various communications (and, after all, it is PURE speculation to assume that they even spoke about this in the last few days), so I don’t know for sure. Maybe you are 100% correct - but maybe I am, instead. We simply cannot know (and may never know), but you have to leave room for the possibility that I may be correct, even if you don’t believe that to be the case.
