Senate Democrats are feeling queasy about their partys presidential primary after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) seized frontrunner status by winning the New Hampshire primary, while former Vice President Joe Biden stumbled to a fifth-place finish.
Democratic senators have been careful not to criticize Sanders publicly, fearing that it could undermine party unity heading into the November general election, which they view as a must-win contest.
But they have serious questions about the electability of their self-described Democratic Socialist colleague, and the problems he may create down ballot for vulnerable Senate candidates.
Several of Sanderss signature proposals, such as Medicare for All, free college, cancelling student debt and the sweeping Green New Deal, dont even have support from a majority of Democratic senators.
I think theres a substantial element of people worried about where were going, said a Democratic senator, who requested anonymity to comment on discussions with colleagues.
Asked about Sanderss reputation as a lawmaker on the far-left of the nations ideological spectrum, the lawmaker said, senators worry about that.
Politicians worry all the time, the source added.
Democrats dont want to speak out because theres a growing chance that Sanders will be the nominee.
There is a real sense that whoever gets it, weve got to be behind him. This election is too important, the senator said.
Other Democrats are downplaying Sanderss recent victories but fretting about whether he will embrace one of his rivals as the partys eventual nominee if Sanders loses the contest.
We all hope to God he will follow what he said last night in New Hampshire that were all on the same team and its all of our responsibility to bring whatever we can to help the nominee, said another Democratic senator.

That is the real concern of Bernie as a presidential candidate leading the Dem ticket - Congress. Not only will he lose the presidential election but he will take down Dem congressional candidates. They will be tied to their communist
top of the ticket. Many Dems will not be unmotivated to show up at the polls for this sure loser. If the convention goes to the superdelegate politicos picking the presidential nominee, Bernie will go down in flames no matter how close he came in the delegate count to a majority. This is not about fairness. It’s about survival
Gross. :)
“scum and vermin, unchecked.....”
Ohhhh! Yer crackin’ me up, FRiend Fox.
Right now, I’ve got my eye less on Sanders than on Bloomberg’s attempt to buy the nomination and the presidency — or at least become the RAT party’s moneybags and kingmaker. I don’t think he would do very well head-to-head with Trump, because of his rather repellent personality.
However, I have to give Bloomberg grudging respect for keeping NYC streets safe during his three terms as mayor. Some folks on FR have said: “Well, all he was doing was continuing Giuliani’s policies.”
That’s absolutely true — but Bloomberg at least had the sense to recognize that the Giuliani approach to crime fighting was a winner. We may mock Bloomberg’s pettiness about food, soft drinks, and a bunch of other stuff. But at least he had a firm grip on the number-one issue facing NYC.
And then, after two decades during which NYC reclaimed its place as “the capital of everything” (quote from Jule Styne’s great musical “Gypsy”), its voters had to go and elect an incompetent leftist ideologue.
Bill DeBlasio ... oy vey!
So many BernieBots have said that if the RAT PTB take out Bernie the way it happened in 2016, they’ll vote for Trump or not vote at all.
So I hope the PTB shove him out before or during the DNC Convention, it pisses off his bots, and they vote for Trump. If he wants to croak after the election, that’s fine, but he has to stay healthy until then so the bots can’t say, “Well, he was sick, so even if he’d won it wouldn’t have mattered.”
(Does that make sense?)
Yeah, I can see Clinton working behind the scenes to get a brokered connection in which she will fly in on her broom to take the nomination and save the day (in her dreams)...
“78 year old with recently found cardiac disease. Make sure you get that VP right.”
Sign up Hillary as his VP...and that (fatal) heart attack will be here before you know it.
As the great Governor William J. Le Petomane stated so eloquently:
“We’ve got to protect our Phony Balony jobs”
“HURRUMPH!”
These Dems only care about one thing. How it affects them. They know if Bernie is on the top of the ticket, it will be a landslide for Trump. That also means many down ticket Congressmen, Senators, etc. may end up losing to their Republican rivals.
Also, even if they keep their job they may end up in the minority in their respective bodies.
That means Nancy could give up the gavel.
I think the generic term is going to be “Never Bernies”.
I hope the Dims nominate the Burning Communist. Why? Because him being at the top of the Dim ticket will result in more Dim Senators and Dim Representatives being kicked to the curb by the electorate.
Warning to the Bern: DO NOT nominate hillary as your VP. Remember Ron Brown, Vince Foster?
It is, isn't it?
Butty-boy and the "First Gentleman."
Wouldn't one assume that the term "gentleman" necessarily precludes the activities most favored by this silly little priss? And his inevitably chubby little pal?
Or at the very least precludes public mention of these activities, let alone boasting about them?
Seems to me that maybe some of this problem might be solved by publicly calling the “independent” candidate by what he really is & then see how many others really want to support him.
