But I was happy to sign up for this if it made my time at an airport shorter and less unpleasant.

I’m going 2,400 mi. from TN to CA this Summer or early Fall for a visit with relatives and plan to drive. That’s what I think of flying, and I go 1st class, not steerage. BTW my projected drive will cost more than 1s class flying.
