I’d consider full restoration for non violent who have served their sentence if parole violators are immediately sent back to prison with no future possibility of parole and we have more not less life sentences and the death penalty.
NY and CA and other states are going the other way - THEY ARE LETTING VIOLENT PRISONERS OUT.
Given the rate of recidivism we have now, I doin’t care how “morally inconsistent” it is to deny restored rights to time-served felons :
a/ let them have guns and the odds are they will come and shoot you
b/ giving felons the vote is partly how Virginia has turned into a shitstain.
And don’t get me started on Trump’s “prison reform”. That woman he celebrated releasing? SHE WAS MAJOR DRUG DEALER who caused the deaths of dozens if not hundreds of addicts and crime victims of the people she sold drugs to.
That is a totally different matter, they should never allow a murderer out early and keep the tax cheat till the last day of his/her sentence. But that is a whole different discussion.
What I am saying, after you did you time, and you are off of parole or probation, you get every single right back. Because it is against the constitution to continue to punish people after they served their time. All rights, including the right to own a weapon, the right to vote, the right to be left alone, etc.
