I've long maintained that a major impediment to the success of particularly young black men and women is the state of education in government schools, especially those in the inner city

I have a different take.

It is the failure of the family unit that has seen the decline of education of the young folks. We are seeing it more and more in the broken and the single parent family of non-colored, where the drop out rate has risen.

The government is not the answer, as Ronald Reagan said, worse words to the Americans is, we are from the government and we are here to help.

Can’t take exception with anything you wrote. The destruction of the nuclear family is absolutely a major contributing factor. As a very good friend of mine, an Army major who happened to be black and was raised in DC said - and I paraphrase, “The only way black kids will get a decent education in DC and other cities is if their parent(s) manages to get them out of public education.” His parents had done just that and he’s one of the most conservative persons I’ve ever met.
