During one of the games, DC?, defense tipped a pass. ...the offensive center catches the ball....runs a few yards for the 1st down . ....then goes to huddle up, then quickly turns around and runs up to the line of scrimmage and does the one arm tomahawk chop pointing down field. ....then he runs back to the huddle. ...at the huddle he bobs his head “yeah” to his fellow teammate.
It was real funny. ...probably the only time in his career he ever caught a pass and got the first down. Really made me smile. He earned that tomahawk chop.
I think the NFL is overboard with self adulation. Like when the 49ers team celebrated with that end zone selfie. ..

Just the other day, I watched parts of a 1971 Monday Night game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Redskins. (Rams lost, unfortunately) With pre-game chit-chat, the National Anthem, and all commercials, the unedited game lasted 3:02. The players did NOT run down the play clock to 0 on each play. There were no celebrations after a first down. No calls to NYC on close calls. Fewer holding penalties even though holding rules were MUCH stricter in those days, but the penalty was 15 yards. The kicking was inferior, though.
