New Hampshire has a state-wide primary election run by county election officers under the auspices of the NH Secretary of State, so there shouldn’t be any problems ... it’s generally just the caucus systems run by the county party organizations that can be problematic ...

I’ve never been to one. So now you’ve piqued my curiosity. How do people know where to show up? Is it mostly party activists, or can just anyone run it? Not trying to be argumentative, just wondering.

Here in PA, we have local county party folks who organize meetings and canvassers and such.

They should just hire Jethro Bodine.

well, they’re run by the country party with largely varying degrees of organizational competence from county to county and party to party ...

it was three years ago when i went to the last one and i’m trying to remember how i was notified, maybe by email from the party, or maybe by postcard from the party ...

they’re supposed to notify every registered party member in the county ... i think the postcard (if it was a postcard) includes your precinct number, start time and the location (like Big Dog High School or the like), but they don’t tell you the address so you have to look it up ... generally, caucuses are attended only by party insiders and other highly-motivated folks ... they’re generally a pain in the butt to attend and boring as hell, so they are usually very poorly attended ...

when you get there, you check in at a check-in desk,and they point you to what classroom, or corner of the cafeteria, or where-ever your precinct caucus is ... when you get there, there’s a big manila envelop full of instructions, ballots and the like ... i usually grab the envelop and read the instructions, etc.

the one i went to three years ago was rigged for Cruz: there was some old f**khead that bullied everyone into “joining” one great big caucus (which was against the rules), so he could run the whole show ... he more or less appointed himself as a super-chair (again against the rules), but no one objected and i was too shocked to raise hell about it. naturally, it was a Cruz guy who was doing the rigging ...

[THIS year, if something like that happens again, i’m going to stand up and raise hell (rather than being some little polite pissant) and threaten the entire group that if they don’t follow the written caucus rules, i’ll lodge a complaint with the county party and demand that ALL of their results be thrown out, and will come armed with a cell-phone with the telephone number of a chief party official ...]

and btw, Colorado voters nuked the caucuses in 2018 for selecting candidates in favor of a primary in which ALL registered voters get to vote (though the caucuses are still in place just to nominate candidates to the primary ballots; however, when there’s a GOOD incumbent involved, the goal for their supporters is to make sure that only that person is on the ballot for that office.)
