Bloomberg ad used Obama-era migrant detention footage to criticize Trump

The ad was tweeted by the candidate, posted on YouTube, and shared here and here on Facebook.

“America demanded change,” a narrator says at the start. “And change is what we got.”

It then shows a series of clips and images that illustrate hot-button issues including immigration, the border wall, gun violence, and Trump’s relationships with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

AFP used reverse image searches of screenshots of the ad to gather information about the material it contains.

Most of it is from Trump’s presidency, but a brief part of the immigration-related footage -- showing children standing in a line, and lying on mattresses under foil blankets in an area surrounded by chain-link fence -- appears in an Associated Press report from June 2014, more than two years before he took office.

The AP report says that the footage is from a facility along the Arizona-New Mexico border that held “at least a thousand kids” who crossed into the United States illegally without an accompanying adult.

Bloomberg’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment on the issue.

It is not the first time that images from the same detention facility have been used to criticize Trump administration policy, and the president himself took aim at Democrats over the issue on Twitter in 2018.

Bloomberg is like Warren and Hillary, a person whose word cannot be trusted.

Yesterday, on the Guttfield show, a Bloomberg ad was shown. My husband cannot believe that Bloomberg would have such a silly ad that shows a gingerbread man floating about and shouting liar. So maybe it was a joke.

He needs to contact AOC about selecting her as publicity agent. She would be ideal for him.

This has been true for all of the criticisms and memes about Trump policies - they use photos from Obama’s time in office of “kids in cages” etc...and falsely attribute it to what Trump did.

A lot of voters won’t realize the photos are from Obama and not Trump administrations. So for Bloomberg - mission accomplished.

The scumbag has little man’s complex. He has enough money to quietly do good things and live a happy life but his ambition is power. He will die ultra rich and ultra unhappy never achieving his true ambition.

Bloomberg has effectively neutered You Tube. Try to watch an instructional video for 10 minutes. His ads have polluted the channel, to the point of it being unwatchable.
