I was in the Army for 5 years and worked another 12 as a civilian. I never saw anything like that. Sure there were Ring Knockers or whatever but every one of those I met was a good guy. I saw people get a lot of encouragement to finish runs or what have you but I never once saw any standard waived or broken.
I take it back. Toward the end of my time with the Army I had a guy come in and he shocked even me. Poor shave, bad haircut, sloppy, wrinkled uniform, he was a mess. Literally the worst I ever saw. We did our business and I commented that I didn’t know there was such a thing as a CW5. He said there aren’t many, you have to get special permission for the rank, usually guys they want to stay until 35 years. Then I realized why he didn’t care, he was bullet proof. He joked he was an IT specialist. LOL.
