These are not actions taken when there have been so few deaths among 11 million people. The empty streets, the ban on funerals, requiring all people to submit their temperatures every day, the biohazard suits used by medical personnel, the quarantining of everyone, and when they do go out they overdress in layers upon layers of clothing, wear rubber gloves, masks, and eye goggles, washing their clothes upon return. Not touching anyone or anything. This has to be far worse than we’re being told.
I’m sure the bodies will cool of quickly with a bullet in the head......next....

But you kind of make the point that even with 10,000 deaths among 370 million a government doesn’t take the kinds of extreme measures that the Chinese government is taking in China, which has reported less than 1,000 deaths among 4 times the population.
The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that this is far, far worse than they’re leading us to believe.
It would be unethical to infect a ship for that reason...
...and unethical to NOT study a ship presenting that way.
OK, this is one commie police state action that I can get behind. It does not seem to go too far considering the circumstances. The only question is how accurate the reporting will get, especially for those who’s temperatures start to rise but they don’t want to be quarantined...

China’s government is missing the point. Pneumonia is an infection primarily affecting the alveoli of the lungs. Coronoa virus is the second most common virus causing the common cold (sniffles), a viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory tract that primarily affects the nose, throat, sinuses, and larynx. Unless this corona virus is more different than has yet been published, we have a whole lot of people walking around with sniffles and no fever - and spreading a virus that is more likely than most colds to move to the lungs.
It initially presents as “sniffles”. It progresses to pneumonia, damage to heart muscle, kidneys, liver. Cytokine storm is the damaging mechanism. Death occurs from multiple organ failure.
I see no point in quarantining people only once they have a fever, if they are contagious while it’s just the sniffles. Am I missing something?

Agree on both points - just to be clear, I don’t believe anyone infected the ship for that reason - but I do believe they are using it to gather useful data.
