Impeachment loses its constitutional gravity in Trump case
The Associated "Press" ^ | February 6, 2020 | By CALVIN WOODWARD and MICHAEL TACKETT

Years from now, will you remember where you were and what you were doing when President Donald Trump was impeached? Have you forgotten already?

The country has been on a constitutional bullet train that took off with a whistleblower’s highly detailed account of wrongdoing, roared ahead through a cascade of tweets and lurched to a halt after more than four months of inquiry, angst and debate with Trump’s acquittal Wednesday. So can you point to Ukraine on a map?

American children learn almost by rote that impeachment is a gravely serious proposition, the constitutional means for removing a president from office who commits “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Only one in Congress broke with the president, and for him the anguish was plain on his face and in his voice. “The president is guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust,” Utah Sen. Mitt Romney said on the Senate floor as he explained why he would vote for conviction.

The founders were never big on specifics. In essence, they told the House to handle impeachment and the Senate to manage conviction or acquittal as each chamber sees fit. Their atomic bomb from the ages came without a detailed instruction manual or FAQ.

As the Senate sat as both judge and jury to assess the impeachment charges against Trump -- for only the third time in history and the first time for a president seeking reelection — the limits of the proceedings for addressing misconduct were clear and the artifice became ever more apparent.

It was a trial in name only.

Manufacturing an offense to remove a guy you don't like will do that.

"...whistleblower’s highly detailed account of wrongdoing"

which no one in the media seems to want to get very specific about.

Obvious they have not learned their lesson. Many readers, viewers etc. will not be coming back - ever. Many layoffs are coming as the financial loses will be massive.

They have no idea their a majority of their audiences is totally fed up and angry. My daughter who is a party line Democrat said she cannot abide them or the Party any more. I see more and more saying the same thing on the internet. This is major bad news for the Press and their Party.

When the Mueller report bombed they should have learned their lesson. But No! they had had to try the Vendor with the Pea under the Shell, one more time. Too bad there was no Pea, but they knew that all along didn't they.

From Borking to Kavenaugh to this Fiasco, it's been one dirty trick to another - smears, lies, moving the goal posts and out right fabrications. And from this article, I see they still have not learned their lesson and possibly never will.

The layoffs cannot come soon enough, the losses at the ballot box and the loss of office is coming. Power is what they wanted and Power they will feel. As we Vote the B*strds Out!

The word "democratic" does not appear in the documents that founded this country. And yet, we have a party of traitors that revel in the name. They tried to steal a presidential election. When that failed, they tried to overturn the election. Now they are going to try to steal ANOTHER election. They promise if they lose, they will flee the country. T(They never do.) They are racist, liars, violent thugs.

Why should democrats be allowed to live?

Isn't that sort of what the Federalist Papers were all about? Sheesh! Does anybody do any research at the AP?

“The founders were never big on specifics.”

I’m sure some pro-federalist must have written a paper on this at some point. HINT, CNN!

Oh, and while we’re at it, AP, what about the way the last administration played fast-and-lose with the FISA courts? That’s another chicken that will come back to roost if somebody doesn’t go to jail over it.

The Founding Fathers didn’t even allow non-taxpayers to vote - yet the Dem base is built on that group (reaping millions of votes from the permanent urban underclass). It is impossible to connect the Democratic Party to the birth of this country, and they know it - so they are just erasing that history AND culture.

There was an impeachment? Who knew?

A huge boulder was flung off a cliff side into a deep lake, and hardly a ripple resulted. There were plenty of reports while the boulder was arcing down, obeying the dictates of gravity, but gravity itself dissipated before the rock touched water.

If you are going to take a shot at the king, better not miss. The consequences of failure can be pretty gruesome.

So here it begins. I voted for Pierre Delecto. I am so ashamed of myself.

Forget Mitt! But wonder how much he was paid to do what he did? I hope this is the last nail in Mitt's political coffin.
