Exactly. I believe in one of the college football playoff games a running back was off for the races to the end zone, but fell down on purpose. By doing so, his team simply kneeled down for a couple plays, and by doing so they simply ran out the clock (the other team had already used up their 3 time outs and could do nothing to stop the clock).
Had he simply run it into the end zone, this would have been the only possible way for the other team to score, get the ball back with an onside kick off, then hail mary for the win. Was looking for the announcers to mention this.
