I was an avid watcher of The Doctor since 1981. I couldn't get through the first episode of Jodie Whittaker's incarnation due to her vacuous idiocy and the Council Estates (British ghetto) accent. Playing to the lowest common denominator is no way to sell a Science Fiction show.
Anyone watching the show up to then was a student of history, humanities, and government. That is now gone.

(... this has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.)

The show exemplified “camp”, with its goofy characters and props, but got lost by the late 90s.
