The one thing I immediately noticed when I saw these guys is two of them have cans. I didn’t ask, they could be “fake cans” you can buy them.

I’m guessing they’re real.
Suppressors are legal in Virginia. There’s legislation being written to ban them, though.

I’ve been shooting with a couple dozen carbine guys in the past year or so, and the % of folks with cans has gone up from about 10% to at least a third. And they were all serious cans, rifles, and optics.
