I bet you had a great education, which you would not have had if you had to go to a public school.
I was in 5th grade at Star of the Sea when we moved from VA to TX for Dad's job. But, we moved a month or so after school started, so we ended up going to public school since my parents didn't want to pay a full semester of tuition for a month of school. So, lucky us got to go to the public school for a bit, ride the bus.
After the first week, my teacher talked to my parents about testing me to move up a grade or two. Granted, I am smarter than most, but at that age, intelligence isn't nearly as big a factor as schooling. By the end of fourth grade, Catholic school already had me a year, maybe two, ahead of the public schools. It's ridiculous.
My wife went to the local public school here in TX, And talking to her, I think their AP BC Calc class was the same size (maybe smaller) as my high school's - and they have three times the number of students. Sure, public schools can turn out smart kids. But that's usually in spite of the school, not because of it. Whereas private schools tend to have a much higher average output of their students.
