The slaves now know they can’t be the master; the economic stagnation when their guy was in power from 2009-2016 was clear even to them (and certainly helped elect Trump), and the flight of wealth and opportunity from the dumps they rule is also clear. They’ve been reduced to begging for handouts, and they know it.
