Iranian anti-regime protests enter third day after Tehran admits it DID shoot down passenger jet - as singer and film director back protesters and two state TV hosts quit over military 'lies'

Anti-government protests in Iran have entered a third day today after Tehran finally abandoned its pretence and admitted shooting down a passenger jet.

Dozens of protesters chanted slogans at a Tehran university today amid a wave of public anger after the plane was shot down with dozens of Iranians on board.

A string of Iranian celebrities have also turned on the regime and two state TV hosts have quit over Tehran's three days of false reporting on the crash.

Leading Iranian film director Masoud Kimiai has pulled out of Tehran's annual Fajr Film Festival in protest, saying he was 'on the side of the public'.

A prominent singer, Alireza Assar, has also cancelled a concert in a bid to show support for the protests which resumed over the weekend.

Iran's only female Olympic medallist Kimia Alizadeh has already announced her defection from the Islamic republic, piling further pressure on the regime.

Tehran is now signalling de-escalation in the stand-off with the United States which had sparked fears of a Middle East conflict...

Trump declared victory in the stand-off after no US troops were harmed in the missile barage, saying that Iran 'appears to be standing down'.

The US president had earlier threatened to target Iranian cultural heritage if Tehran struck against US targets, prompting claims he was preparing to commit a war crime.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said after the strikes Iran had 'concluded' its response to Soleimani's death, although Tehran has sent mixed signals on whether there is more to come.

So what? No regime change in the future without direct help from Trump. How? I have no idea but a country controlled by a huge army and terrorists will never change peacefully.

I think that President Trump’s declaration of backing for the People of Iran is a major move that will encourage them. Remember that Obama declared support for Khameni and the Revolutionary Guard that was suppressing the popular revolt. Also, don’t forget that he may have authorized covert support for the Iranian people protesting the shoot down of the airliner and its lying about it.

And the government has been shake by the President’s ordering the killing of Gen Soleiman, which they didn’t think he would do. They expected him to be a ‘paper tiger’ like Obama.

Wonder if any of the Democratic candidates have a message for the Iranian protesters. Would love them to be asked that question at their “debate”.

“Proving that Iranian news media are more ethical than ours.”

There is truth in your statement, and it should be repeated.

Perhaps instead of calling them the main street media we should call them the Bagdad Bob Correspondents, our own version of the BBC.

A singer, film director and two state TV hosts have not only forfeited their jobs, but are risking their lives standing up to the evil regime in Iran.

Compare and contrast this to American singers, film directors and state TV hosts who won't even deviate from parroting the lines fed to them by the deep state at the risk of what? Not being invited to appear on "The View" or good seating at the next Democrat convention?

"So what? No regime change in the future without direct help from Trump. How?"

Trump is not going to help them so far as military support, and our sanctions are pretty close to being maxed out. He will continue to speak out in their support, and will probably put pressure on Europe and others to join in both with the sanctions and political support. If the uprising gets much, much larger, the military will turn against the Mullahs, just as they did the Shah. But that would probably take 5 to 10 million people rising up with wide international political support.

"Direct help" would only focus the Iranian people's anger against the USA, rather then the oppressive Khamenei regime.

I’ll never forget the night of the crackdown in Tienamen Square, hearing the announcer on Radio Beijing talking about what was going on in the Square as the troops marched in.

By the next hour, he obviously was replaced by somebody else toeing the government line.

Never found out whatever happened to the brave announcer.

I wonder what the Shah of Iran’s son Reza is up to in all of this, as he’s supported efforts at bringing representative and more open government to Iran?

Yep look for the parallels to what happened in 1979. What will the army do? When they turned on The Shah, it was all over.

I would think the army is under lock and key with the mullahs and it would be exceedingly hard to do anything. If the army had or could have any effect on the regime it would have occurred in the 10 year cluster F with the Iran- Iraq war. This is not like Egypt where the army was already independent and certainly not beholden to the Muslim Brotherhood. But maybe there’s a hero in waiting.

I'm hoping that we are watching the end-game of Trump's destruction of the Democrat Media in realtime.

They rushed Mullah Pelosi to Georgie "Clinton's Overpaid Midget Sockpuppet" Steponallofus' Media triage center over the weekend, where she dissed the Iranian protestors.

This was in accordance with the accepted Media Narrative.

The Iranians don't seem to be following The Narrative, and if things break wide open, Mullah Pelosi's feckless dependence on her Media handlers will be exposed for us Normals to see.

I include Democrat Normals, too - like my next-door neighbor...

That is true, but I’m guessing that the mullahs’ expected Trump to be a ‘paper tiger.’ (ah, those old Vietnam War era terms coming back from the deep recesses of my memory.)

Unfortunately, the difference is that Iran has a large army and many other enforcement arms (police, secret police, gov’t directed militias, etc.) Philippines is relatively weak in this regard, and, with a few exceptions, not as vicious.
