DUBAI, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Iran's statement on Saturday that a Ukrainian passenger plane was downed by a missile fired unintentionally followed growing pressure from abroad but also at home, and for some Iranians, the authorities' expressions of condolence were not enough.
For days, Iran had denied Western accusations it was responsible for Wednesday's crash soon after take-off from Tehran, in which all 176 people aboard were killed. Authorities said on Saturday that air defences had been fired in error while on high alert following Iranian missile strikes on U.S. targets in Iraq.
Expressions of condolence over the incident from Supreme Leader and President Hassan Rouhani failed to calm angry Iranians, who used social media to express their outrage against the establishment for concealing the truth.
"It is a national tragedy. The way it was handled and it was announced by the authorities was even more tragic," said Ali Ansari, a moderate cleric, according to Iran's semi-official ILNA news agency.

Oh yeah, show some “righteous” anger, be-head a couple low level worker bees and maybe a supervisor to show how mad they are. But, the crash site will remain compromised.
It is interesting to look back at their denials now.
...........
All they ever had to do is count their own missiles. Oops where did those two missiles go? They must be around here somewhere. Better check Craigslist to see if they’re for sale!
I can hear it now....”SEE WHAT TRUMP MADE US DO!”
Everything is Trump’s fault. Low unemployment rate, conservative judges, border wall construction, strong military, energy independence,etc.etc.
I call bullshit on the claim that the aircraft turned towards a sensitive military base. The aircraft is under control the tower when taking off and then is handed off to departure control once airborne. There are standard departure routes that departing aircraft fly. I find it hard to believe that any of the standard departure routes would go directly over a sensitive military installation. Further I find it hard to believe that the pilot would fly a particular path without orders to do so by departure control.
That’s exactly the explanation the Iranians are offering — Trump’s “adventurism” (I think that’s the word they used) caused the accidental shoot-down. Predictably, NPR is repeating this Trump-did-it line every fifteen minutes, followed immediately by coverage of the Australian bushfires caused by climate change.
Air traffic control in the U.S. has switched from ground radar based to satellite based. Is that true everywhere?
Anybody know?
Agree. And the Iranian missile operation couldnt distinguish between a passenger plane, with its distinctive shape, and transformer, taking off from their own airport, and a cruise missile incoming from abroad?
(And for the last week, weve been bombarded by reports from so-called experts on TV, telling us how formidable Iranian missile technology was, with pin-point accuracy?)
Im up to my neck in BS.
No BS here. I threw my TV in the trash. Everything on it was a lie.
