I always look to actors for political advice. /sarcasm
Amen.
My inkling is this is gonna be a big ole ‘member berry pie with a very stupid plot (that probably doesn’t have much to do with Brexit despite what Sir Patrick said, maybe this young cooze he married has made him “woke”).
Picard, I ‘member Picard!
Hey do you ‘member Data? I ‘member him, I thought he was dead. He’s not and death means nothing if an actor unretires from a role? Sweet!
Seven of Nine! Wow do you ‘member her? I ‘member. She looks “edgy”, aren’t you creaming your pants yet?
7 of 9 ? From the clip I saw, she looked angry, sarcastic and past 50 and she acted like she served with Jeeeen Luck Pickurd (Q’s voice) for years. All part of the post-Voyager fake Trek universe.
"The Federation" has swung isolationist, and the new Picard is very different.
..........
"There was a time when he was captain. There was a time when he was admiral. And then he became involved in a huge refugee problem. And he made some errors of judgment, mistakes."
Barf.
Sigh...all my favorite actors are turning out to be total scum. What a surprise, huh?/sarc
“Isolationist” = Can’t solve the problems of $hitholes by importing the people that made them $hitholes which result in making the place they import them into $hitholes.
Don’t make the mistake of putting them up on pedestals. If they turn out to be remotely sane or normal, be pleasantly surprised.
Also, makes me feel bad for Picard the character, he expressed a desire to get married and have family (space viagra), apparently didn’t happen. Instead he’s living alone in a vineyard, where his family somehow burned to death in house fire despite the level of technology.
Last thing I saw Data in, he played a homosexual doctor married to a man. (”Independence Day : Resurgence” -— a disappointing sequel to “Independence Day”).
Picard, to me, was a conservative, with conservative values, complete with limits and rules. I have met a few of my literary heros, and no actors, I have however viewed, in person some of those, and they are sadly very human. What I find, is that as their careers wane, and work becomes less and less, they seek attention, good or bad, anyway, and anywhere they can. Most, it seems are liberals, many are not really that smart when it comes to dealing with the real world, but believe in their hearts, what they say. It just turns the corner in their lives that they are willing to express that opinion publicly, and be damned with the consequences.
Now, we as the public can like or dislike a performance, and still support an actor. But, when they make a public stand for a cause, or political stance, well, that is a horse of a different color, and in that instance, a more serious decision is thrust upon each individual.
Sadly, Patrick Stewart, the person, is not someone I will support in the future, and that saddens me, because I like Patrick Stewart the actor, but he has made a decision that many in Hollywood have made, and forced me to decide to support his work, which supports his politics. That I cannot do.
I wish our entertainers would just focus on their craft, and keep their politics to themselves. A review of his Wiki account shows him very active, a socialist, who sought US citizenship to oppose Trump, to date he has not gotten US citizenship. I expect that he has put the nail in his coffin of US support, and will slowly fade away...Make it so...
Picard took his high school guidance counselor into space! Enough said!
I watched the first episode last night and it was okay. I haven’t seen the political undertones yet that some have said are in it.
Although they is a subplot concerning saving the Romulans when their planet blew up and whether Picard should have saved them.
It is slow moving and Stewart looks and moves like a guy 79. Will have to give it a few more episodes to see where it goes.
