In the map below, most of the blue (GNA) areas are just empty desert. The capture of Sirte shows that the anti-jihadis (LNA) are advancing along the coast (where most of the people live), toward the Capital, which they are already in encircling from the South. The main attack into the Capital probably needs the coast road for supply from Egypt (which supports the anti-jihadi LNA rebels).
If the anti-jihadi rebels clear the coast road to the suburbs of Tripoli (capture Misrata), then the jihadi-supporting Government will be down to their last stand in the Capital.
The Turks want to break the momentum, and gain time to build the jihadis back up with ammo, weapons and reinforcements from Syria (which is why Russia likes it - shipping jihadis out of Syria).
