They are both looking at the reality of a life of utter pointlessness. In Canada, they could head west and run a bait shop in the Rockies. Or teach middle school in Toronto. Or sell real estate. But if they stay in England … it must be bad enough being royalty, but at least the King and Queen get to go to the ribbon cuttings that matter. The best to which Harry can aspire is to grow up to be Prince Andrew without the baggage.

“They are both looking at the reality of a life of utter pointlessness....if they stay in England … it must be bad enough being royalty, but at least the King and Queen get to go to the ribbon cuttings that matter.”

Look up Prince Charles’ sister, Princess Anne. If anyone deserves the title of Royal Workhorse, it is she.

Her Wiki bio states, “Her credo is, ‘Keep me busy. I’m here to work. I’m here to do good things. I’m here to meet as many people as possible’.”

“It was revealed in December 2017 that the Princess Royal had undertaken the most official engagements that year out of all the royal family, her mother included.”

Not a pointless life, and one free of scandals or stupid quotes. We can question the utility of the monarchy & the royal family, but Anne probably has gone the distance in terms of usefulness to British tradition, custom, and national purpose.

Apparently Anne’s devotion to duty has not rubbed off on any of her royal relations.
