'Major retaliation': U.S. vows to target Iran's top leaders if Tehran retaliates
The Washington Times ^ | Sunday, January 5, 2020 | Guy Taylor and Dave Boyer

The Trump administration escalated its threats Sunday to hit Iran’s top leaders with military strikes if Tehran or its proxies carry out any attacks against American personnel or interests in retaliation for the U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani last week.

“We’re going to respond against the actual decision-makers, the people who are causing this threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a televised interview, expounding on a flurry of tweets a day earlier by President Trump, who warned that U.S. officials have already identified 52 possible Iranian targets, a highly symbolic number in the history of U.S.-Iran hostility.

Asked about Iran retaliating, Mr. Trump told reporters on Sunday night, “If it happens, it happens. If they do anything, there will be major retaliation.”

The messaging came amid mounting unsease in Washington and across the Middle East, where Iran’s supreme leader vowed to inflict “severe revenge” for Soleimani’s death and other Iranian officials said Sunday that Tehran will now no longer abide by any limits to its nuclear enrichment activities.

While any violent retaliation from Iran is unlikely before the regime in Tehran finishes a third day of official mourning for Soleimani — a period that runs through Monday — the escalating rhetoric coincides a flurry of unnerving developments since the Iranian commander was killed early Friday in Iraq by a U.S. Hellfire missile.

The Iraqi parliament, which American officials say has been increasingly undermined by influence from neighboring Iran in recent years, passed a bill Sunday calling for the expulsion of all U.S. troops from Iraq.

The bill remains subject to approval by Iraq’s top leaders and, even then, would allow at least a year for the some 5,200 U.S. troops in the country to withdraw.

This is a big time wrinkle that is way more significant than the crack about cultural sites. Soleimani wasn't a one-off.

If Khamenei is on the list, any Iraqi collaborating with Iran is fair game.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. Calvin Coolidge

Tell me your take on Soleimani NOT being a one off...

"The Iraqi parliament, which American officials say has been increasingly undermined by influence from neighboring Iran in recent years, passed a bill Sunday calling for the expulsion of all U.S. troops from Iraq."

The Iranian supported MPs voted for a non binding resolution with the Sunni and Kurdish MPs absent. It's a PR stunt by Iran's people in the Iraqi Parliament.

The US targeting Iranian leadership will bring howling rage from Democrats.

And it’s the right answer.

These guys may go underground, but they can’t stay there forever. And we may even be able to get them underground.

We have weapons and targets for those weapons that would completely devastate Iran’s military complexes, oil refineries, and oil extraction facilities.
With the combined intelligence of our IC, the Saudi, Kuwaiti, UAE, and Israel, we know a great deal about what is where and how deep.
Facilities buried in mountains do not have to be penetrated to render them useless. The entrances/exits merely need to be rendered impassable and all ventilation systems destroyed. The people within will eventually perish.
Our precision guided ground penetrating bombs can penetrate 200+ feet. We can using laser guidance put one after another causing catastrophic collapse of underground bunkers.
Vacuum bombs such as our president used in the cavernous mountain valleys of Afghanistan can wipe out huge areas with devastating effect.
The newly acquired Growlers can totally disrupt all electricity distribution and electronic devices in large swathes of territory.
And, those are just a few of the weapons known to the public.
With these weapons arrayed against a third world shithole like Iran no invasion force is needed.

They did put an $80 million dollar bounty on President Trump’s head. This is his way of responding and being unpredictable.

Establish and enforce no fly zone
Key roads and bridges
Command, control and communications
Destroy all air power in first 24 hours
Destroy all surface ships and submarines

True. It’ll be tit-for-tat and escalate from there. Already there’s traffic (chatter?) I heard in Japanese press today that Trump International properties worldwide, resorts, high rises and what not, some in security vulnerable areas, might also be drawn up on a list by Iran as their own targets, or that the Olympics in Tokyo might be a risk for the US team.
These guys don’t play nice. But looks like we are all on the Tippicanoe and Tyler, too, hip hip hooray war wagon NOW!

What strikes me is that the left keep screaming about how killing soleimani was a ‘dangerous provocation’- Oh Yeah? Well Soleimani murdered HUNDREDS of Americans- why doesn’t the left think that HE was ‘dangerously provoking’ US? We kill a few TERRORIST scumbags, but soleimani can murder hundreds of soldiers and ambassadors, and the left don’t think HE was dangerous to us? To our soldiers?

Hey Democrats- Soleimani DANGEROUSLY PROVOKED the US and paid the price for it- so get over yourselves you terrorist loving dirtbags!

Trump tweets Iran will ‘never have a nuclear weapon’
I am VERY HAPPY that Trump said this!!
The Iranian leaders would use nuclear bombs and kill millions before we and or Israel destroys them. I bet that Israel would not let them actually build a atom bomb before killing all the Iranian leaders and their nuclear weapon sites. We cannot risk it no matter what celebrity or democrat thinks about it.
