Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee has filed to run for President as a libertarian in what appears to be a new long-shot White House bid following his failed campaign for the Democratic nomination in 2016.
Chafee filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Sunday to form the Lincoln Chafee for President campaign committee based in Wyoming. A website linked to Chafee's FEC filing states "Lincoln Leads with TRUTH" along with the phrase "Thirty Years, Zero Scandals." Chafee has spent most of his life as a Republican. He was nominated to his late father's Senate seat in 1999 and then was elected as a Republican in 2000. He served only one term, losing to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse in 2006, but then successfully ran for governor of Rhode Island as an independent. His 2016 bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, however, was marked by anemic poll and fundraising numbers.

1. He is not a Republican. He last run for Governor as an independent, then for President as a Democrat.
2. There are no Republican debates this year.
3. If anything, he is going to take votes from the Democrats in Rhode Island and surrounding states.

No way. They have already been burnt by the pothead NM Republican governor and his Deep State GOP MA governor sidekick. Before that they were burnt by a failed GOP GA representative and his Vegas GOP sidekick. I really don’t think they’ll be fooled again. But they might be as dumb as Republicans, so I guess it could happen.

You've got to remember that every ballot has NOTA as one of the choices. That makes it difficult to anticipate what kind of character can get through the process.

It is hard to see a theme to Lincoln Chafee’s political career except for a distinguished father and a casebook example of political gender fluidity.

He was so bad, I endorsed his pro-life Democrat opponent for Senator in 2000, Bob Weygand (even with Fred Thompson endorsing Missing Linc). His voting record was almost identical to Hillary Clinton’s (after she joined him in the Senate in 2001). It’s too bad Chafee lost to Weldon $hithouse instead of Weygand, as he was actually more execrable and leftist than Linky.
Those jackasses have cost us way too many key races.
