Five years as a second lieutenant?

Something way wrong there. Maybe he was enlisted first?

Anyway, having a son in the Army is not a ticket to citizenship. She hasn’t applied in the 30 years she’s been here?

What is the Army doing commissioning people whose parents are here illegally?

Out.

Five years as a second lieutenant?.....I dunno. Back in the70’s they’d have said “Thanks for what little service you gave us but you are gone”.

In today’s active duty Army, you don’t get five years to be a butterbar. If you’re half-way competent, you’d make 1st Lt. within 18 to 30 months....otherwise you’re shown the door.

Reserves? There’s a little bit of lee way but not much. Again, making it to 1st Lt. shouldn’t be that much of a challenge unless you’re a total screw up.
