The American Baptist Convention is about 2-3% of US Baptists, and the most liberal of the Baptist organizations, while there are a few “evangelical” congregations within the ABC, it is generally considered in the “mainline” camp* rather than “evangelical.”
* “Mainline Protestants” ought perhaps to be re-named as “Sideline Protestants,” as they now comprise a shrinking minority of Protestants, especially when considering the burgeoning ongoing growth of independent “non-denominational” churches, which are 98% evangelical and generally follow theologies very similar to the Baptists.
My brother attends one of the few evangelical ABC churches. They just hired a new pastor who’s goal is to get them out of the denomination.
