Rand Paul: U.S. Soldiers ‘Deserve Better’ than Undeclared War with Iran
Breitbart ^ | 3 Jan 2020 | JOSHUA CAPLAN

Posted on 01/03/2020 7:25:18 AM PST by RandFan

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) reacted Friday to the U.S.’s deadly airstrike on a top Iranian military commander, stating that it would be “feckless” for the country to wage war against the Islamic regime without Congressional authorization.

“President Trump viscerally understands that the toppling of Saddam Hussein made Iran stronger. Soleimani, like Hussein, was an evil man who ordered the killing of Americans. Yet, the question remains, whether his death will lead to more instability in the Middle East or less,” Paul wrote on Twitter. “The question today is whether the assassination of Soleimani will expand the war to endanger the lives of every American soldier or diplomat in the Middle East?”

“If we are to go to war w/ Iran the Constitution dictates that we declare war. A war without a Congressional declaration is a recipe for feckless intermittent eruptions of violence w/ no clear mission for our soldiers,” the senator added. “Our young men and women in the armed services deserve better.”

But it’s either comical or pathetic (or both) to think there are some people here on Free Republic who actually still believe anything that came from “U.S. intelligence” sources.

Does that make Trump pathetic and comical, cuz guess where he gets his intel, genius?

Ah, the Energizer Bunny of rank cowardice appears again. Let me guess: you think that we sould at all costs pretend that we can ignore our enemies until they leave us alone, right?

Thankfully, the rest of us understand what fighting to protect our country really means and will do it again if we have to.

We are ultimately talking about protecting our embassies, which if they are targeted, the people that do will be.

Previous conflicts or not. You either defend what is American territory or you run.

How the situation was set up and orchestrated through Hegelian Dialect is the huge problem I have. But I cannot fault Trump for hitting right back and striking at the head of the snake without any delay. It is better than what the true instigators would want him to do. They would rather have him nibble at the edges from now on having minimal effect just to prolong their fun and profits.

OK Senator, you have the power to persuade your fellow congresscritters to officially declare a war.

Your move.

RE: You never heard of ISIS or Iranian-backed militias in Iraq before 2003, did you?

Of course. But I’ve also heard of Abu Nidal, Abu Abbas, the terrorist training site in Iraq called Salman Pak and scores of other terrorists that Saddam Hussein funded and supported.

Rand Paul shows why he should never be President.

“What is Rand Paul’s alternative?”

Probably issue a letter of marque and reprisal like his stupid dad would like to do.

We’re [in Afghanistan] to monitor Iran’s nuclear program.

I believe you completely. Totally makes sense.

At least we're doing SOMETHING really required, there.

I don’t know what Rand’s talking about. Iran has been getting more aggressive with us. We took out a known terrorist butcher who is a direct threat to our people. No war is happening (any more than there was before). Iran my retaliate in a meaningful way, or they may not.

If he thinks this is the beginning of WW3, then I suggest he step away from Twitter for a while.

This was a retaliatory attack as our Americans were attacked on U.S. Soil at the embassy. This isn't a declared war, Rand needs to get into the modern age, we tend not to declare wars any longer. Perhaps if he has the answers he should submit some new legislation and get people in Congress to support it instead of his usual complaining.

That said, it ain’t worth it. I think there are better ways to handle their nuclear program including bombing it off the face of the Earth. We need to stop screwing around.

Well, in most cases I agree with Rand. In this case I don’t see an escalation to a full sized war. This was an attack on a foriegn general operating outside of his country. He managed an attack on our embassy. That makes him fair game.

I think it’s telling we did not attack Iran territory, but rather their assets in Iraq—where they don’t belong. If we attacked their navy and ports, it would be a different story.

Yep, thankfully we don't have to worry that these Islamic fanatics have a nuclear bomb, but we will in a few more years if this doesn't get figured out.

The middle east has never been stable. Most fought over piece of land on the planet. Anyone who attacks the US, will get hit back. He attacked our embassy. His attackers wrote his name on the walls. They said they wanted to kill everyone there. Then he flew on a plane into the nearby international airport. If it was me, Terhan would be gone right now.
