There was a report that russian and chinese ships were cruising with iranian ships to keep open the straits of hormuz...the article hinted it was to stp the us from closing them.

But it has always been Iran threatening to close the straits in the past, blocking several countries from shipping a lot of oil to Europe and Asia...so rheoretically russia and china would be doing what US ships have done for 30 years,

And Russia owes Trump a favor for stopping terrorism,

When we were keeping the Straits open, we were doing it in our own best interests but also on behalf of the Free World to ensure the economies of all countries (mostly us) maintain access to the petroleum shipping on those waters.

The Russians and the Chinese are doing it to ally themselves with a repressive, violent regime and are doing it as a political move. It is a stunt in any case.

It’s possible they are trying to deter* US attacks against the Iranian Navy. Uncle Sam is, short of a global war, not in the business of closing off waterways, even to hostile regimes.
