The huge embassy, built along the banks of the Tigris River in central Baghdads fortified green zone during American occupation following the 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, 'is the biggest U.S. diplomatic mission in the world'.
Iran-backed militias withdrew from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq on Jan. 1 ...The withdrawal came a day after a mix of protesters and militia members and supporters stormed the embassys outer walls, prompting a contingent of U.S. Marines to deploy from Kuwait.... Some 100 Marines arrived 'just before midnight' from Kuwait to reinforce the security forces at the embassy.
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said the United States was sending about 750 additional troops to the Middle East after Tuesdays attack on the embassy.
This deployment is an appropriate and precautionary action taken in response to increased threat levels against U.S. personnel and facilities, such as we witnessed in Baghdad today, he said in a statement. The United States will protect our people and interests anywhere they are found around the world.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said late Tuesday on Fox News that there were no plans to evacuate the embassy or pull out any of the 5,000 troops in Iraq.
The embassy is being monitored. Its safe. The actions that we took today were prudent. Under President Trumps direction, our team worked together today to quickly, decisively, prudently take the appropriate responses to keep our American people safe, Pompeo said during an appearance on CBS.

All of whom should now be serving life sentences or have already been executed.
Several thousand “protestors” breeched the outer wall of our embassy. They torched a guard tower and reception area (there are pictures of this on the Internet).
Other countries and adversaries are watching this incident very closely and taking notes. They are measuring our resolve. If we do nothing it could invite similar acts, or worse, elsewhere.
Rubber bullets are a joke to people who only respect strength and power. We had better bring the hammer down or Iran quick.
I trust Trump to do the right thing in the end despite what the PC generals over at DOD might want. We know Trump isn't a roll-over and play dead kind of leader. Iran should expect retaliation shortly.
Iran's economy is in dire straights and all the mullahs can do is talk big. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes when Trump pays them back for their attack on our embassy.

Yes, I like your revision.
Iran’s economy has been a wreck for a long time. There is also rising political dissent but I think that sometimes we look at things through western eyes. The point being that some despotic countries seem to endure incredible economic deprivation that would be intolerable for us, yet the government remains firmly in control. Iran and Venezuela are salient examples.
Economic sanctions have clearly been squeezing Iran but don’t seem to be curtailing their aggressive acts.
This latest incident is but part of a string of largely unanswered attacks by Iran. Trump is going to have to take the gloves off soon. The next attack might leave him no other alternative.
That could help my drives.
