Concealed-permit gun holders save lives — Texas church attack just the latest example
Fox News ^ | December 30, 2019 | John R Lott Jr

The attack on the West Freeway Church of Christ reminds us of an important truth that too many still deny:

Concealed-permit gun holders save lives. And in today’s world, they and their weapons should be welcomed in churches and other houses of worship.

Within seconds of the shooter opening fire on the Texas congregation Sunday, he was shot dead by two parishioners with concealed handgun permits, one of them a former FBI agent. Four other parishioners had their concealed handguns drawn, ready to respond. The attacker killed two congregants before he was taken down, but the death toll could have been much higher.

“The citizens who were inside that church undoubtedly saved 242 other parishioners, and that might get swept aside,” said Jeoff Williams, a regional director with the Texas Department of Public Safety. “It was miraculous. The true heroes in all this are the people who were sitting in those pews today and responded, the immediate responders … it was truly heroic.”

“Today evil walked boldly among us,” Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said at a press conference. “Let me remind you, good people raised up and stopped it before it got worse.”

Sunday’s shooting demonstrated yet again that there are simply too many targets for police to be able to protect everyone. It’s also not realistic to keep terrorists and criminals from getting weapons. The war on guns has been as much of a failure as the war on drugs. There is simply no backup plan when background checks fail to stop killers from buying weapons.

When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law earlier this year making it easier for people to carry guns with them into places of worship, former Vice President Joe Biden criticized the action. “It is irrational, with all due respect to the....

Any "permitting" scheme is a double-edged Sword of State wielded against the People.

The first edge divides the People from their Right, by virtue of their birth, to "keep and bear arms", and makes it a criminal act to exercise such right without having first obtained, as individuals, a Permission to do so.

The second edge milks the People's resources for the Fees -- no, rather, the Bribes -- extorted as payment for these Permissions.

THIS IS TYRANNY.

Correction:

"Concealed-permit gun holders save lives. And in today’s world, they and their weapons should be welcomed in churches and other houses of worship everywhere."

"Concealed-permit gun holders save lives"

Many constitutional carriers have done the same. It's fast and easy enough to run NICS checks. More drug busts would be helpful. Get those histories on record to make it easier for victims who defend themselves against criminals.

That’s exactly why they want more restrictions. It could have been a perfectly good mass shooting, but the quick-draw McGraw here went and ruined it by offing the perp. Now how can Dems advocate for common sense shotgun regulations?

Since the Korean War veterans have been portrayed by the media as psycholically damaged and unworthy of the public’s trust. But these people, overwhelmingly, have talents of value that also include a willingness to protect people. In my opinion they should all be allowed to concealed carry anywhere since they’ve already proven their loyalty to the country as a whole. No one should be able to restrict your right to self defense irregardless of who owns the property on which you stand and may become threatened.

“Concealed gun holders save lives. And in today’s world, they and their weapons should be welcomed in churches and other houses of worship and everywhere.”

There, it needed just a little more editing.

John jumped the gun a bit on this one, based on early reports.

Only one person of the volunteer security team fired.

He was not former FBI.

He was a long time firearms instructor, Jake Wilson, 71 years old.

He was head of the security team for his church.

“Concealed-permit gun holders save lives. And in today’s world, they and their weapons should be welcomed in churches and other houses of worship.”

Around here, each of the Baptist Churches have two men by the door at all times. Openly carrying. And I imagine at least half inside are concealed carrying.

….I’m not criticizing the gentlemen that shot the shooter. I think he is a true hero. What he did took guts, skil, and quick thinking.

I’m just wondering WHY they didn’t drag this sob outside when he showed up in a fake beard and wig and long coat. They were watching him and were suspicious of him but didn’t act. Had they done so it might have saved 2 lives and who cares about the shooter!

I think I have a shotgun like he had (a Winchester defender) and it would be hard to carry it under a coat without an observant person noticing something under the coat.
