“So now you got a lot of jobs out there that are now demanding bachelor degrees today when 20 years ago you didn’t need any college at all.”

Griggs v. Duke Power Co.

A forgotten but major reason that college degrees became mandatory for virtually every job.

Griggs was a 1971 SCOTUS decision that effectively killed the ability of corporations to use their own employment screening tests.

If they did, they ran the very real risk of being constantly sued and/or heavily fined for discrimination. The reaction of corporations was to shift the screening process to colleges. Start requiring a college degree for everything. And here we are.

That’s not necessarily true. The trades are very popular here but it’s not all flowers and sunshine. These are very difficult jobs with long hours, physical labor, and usually having to work in all sorts of weather conditions. It is a good job for those who can do it. But these are not jobs for everyone.
And it’s not guaranteed job either. I remember when the recession hit, construction died and the trades took a hit. A lot of tradesmen were laid off.
My uncle was an electrician. But he had to give it up. It gave him serious back problems he’s still dealing with. He ended up having to go back to school anyway to do something else.

I didn't say that the trades were all flowers and sunshine.

Those in trades can move to other places to find work. The state of North Dakota has only 760,077 people...in the entire state. California has 39+ MILLION folks so where one lives has a lot to say about work.

I also never said that any job is guaranteed.
Please stop putting words into my posts.

I'm sorry about your uncle. Tradesmen do work with their body. Professionals work with their mind. Therein lies a big difference in who lasts longest.

My mother became a widow when she was younger than 50. She traveled after my dad passed away. THEN she decided to take art and law classes. She went to law school at night, took the bar exam, passed it at 60 years of age and practiced law until she was 80.

There are many choices in this country but one does have to consider one's options as well.

The trades can be a great way to earn a good living.

I give the trades twenty years of good earnings before the bodies wear out. So I am telling my son to sock the cash away into investments so he can stop in 18 or so years.

Good advice.

“the simple difference between using “loose” and “lose” in a sentence”

My loose pants caused me to lose
my dignity.

And I don’t got me one of them
college degrees.

Most Universities are spitting out bachelor degrees that are worthless and most people receiving them work at a job different from what they studied
