'Unfathomable': Rev. Franklin Graham slams Christianity Today for demanding Trump's removal
Washington Examiner ^ | 12/20/2019 | Jon Brown

Posted on 12/20/2019 5:28:58 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Evangelist Franklin Graham tore into the magazine his father founded after the flagship evangelical publication called for President Trump to be removed from office.

In a statement posted to Facebook on Thursday night, Graham wrote, "Christianity Today released an editorial stating that President Trump should be removed from office, and they invoked my father’s name (I suppose to try to bring legitimacy to their statements), so I feel it is important for me to respond."

Conceding that his father helped establish the periodical in 1956, Franklin Graham maintained that Billy Graham, who died in 2018 at age 99, would not countenance the viewpoints espoused by the editorial board against the president. "Yes, my father Billy Graham founded Christianity Today," Graham wrote, "but no, he would not agree with their opinion piece. In fact, he would be very disappointed."

Revealing that the last vote his father cast was for Trump, Franklin went on to claim that Billy Graham "knew Donald Trump, he believed in Donald Trump, and he voted for Donald Trump. He believed that Donald J. Trump was the man for this hour in history for our nation."

"For Christianity Today to side with the Democrat Party in a totally partisan attack on the President of the United States is unfathomable," Graham continued. He pointed to the lopsided vote in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, in which no Republican voted in favor of impeachment. "I know a number of Republicans in Congress, and many of them are strong Christians," said Graham. "If the President were guilty of what the Democrats claimed, these Republicans would have joined with the Democrats to impeach him."

"This impeachment was politically motivated, 100% partisan," Graham asserted. "Why would Christianity Today choose to take the side of the Democrat left whose only goal is to discredit and smear the name of a sitting president?" Graham closed out his statement by saying that Christianity Today "has moved to the left and is representing the elitist liberal wing of evangelicalism."

Graham then cited Trump's accomplishments for people of faith, such as opposing abortion and mitigating the reach of ISIS. Graham has been a staunch supporter of the president and has claimed that "a demonic power" is fueling the fury behind impeachment and the political turmoil roiling the nation.

Mark Galli, the editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, asserted Thursday that Trump's July 25 phone call to the Ukrainian president was "profoundly immoral" and that the case against him was "unambiguous."

"The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents," Galli wrote. The magazine went on to rebuke the evangelicals who back Trump, warning that their support "will crash down on the reputation of evangelical religion and on the world’s understanding of the gospel."

Many supposedly Catholic publications and websites are leftist and endorse immoral and heretical causes.

A great website for seeing how far churches have degraded is “Virtue Online” (the author’s name is David Virtue). The Episcopal church has gone heretical, and he posts lots of stories about the cultural wars and how traditional Anglicans are picking up the refugees from Episcopal churches.

I’m Catholic and love this website since it mirrors what traditional faiths everywhere are suffering.

CT had no business invoking Billy Graham’s name to support their position as if he would agree with them. They cannot speak for him and Franklin has every right to go after them.

Agree. I never heard of this dude, but his opinion, sounds like it is ANYTHING but evangelical. Maybe this is symptomatic of the great falling away. I don’t know for sure, but I wonder how many thousands have canceled their subscription in the last day? I surely would.

We actually joined a small church that has ‘traditional values’ and even says so on their church sign

We saw the word ‘traditional’ and said......’let’s try that one’
Never looked back

And this was after coming from a huge ‘seeker friendly’ church

I don’t know of a single Christian who reads “Christianty”Today. Not one. By the way, CNN doesn’t read it either.

I think Christianity Today has just thrown their principles to the wind in order to get Mike Pence in the White House.

My bet is they'd find him (far) too conservative.

And, though I read what Galli wrote, I, too, am still searching for principles grounding it.

It cites vague past personal conduct for which the President has not shown remorse.

To my knowledge, a requirement for public repentance of decisions made before taking office is a standard to which they held no previous President of either party.

The Galli piece also suggests that the public "witness" of Evangelicals will be harmed if they do not criticize Trump now and call for his resignation.

As a former Evangelical, I find this ludicrous; in my decades-long experience, believers were to be judged, if at all, on the fruits derived from their faith, not on how vocal they were in criticizing public officials.

As you (and Franklin Graham) suggest, consistency is not something stone-throwers seem to require.

There is no way to defeat this madness with out true repentance, and that word (teshuvah in Hebrew) means to return to the Laws of God, all of them.

That seems to be the entire history of the Old Testament, and even the New; namely, an inevitable falling way from first principles and the unceasing effort of prophets and holy men to drag their leaders back to the true path. It never ends.

I don’t either..... in fact when I first became a Christian and inquired about it I was told then there were many others to read which represent far better Christianity. I think my first subscription was ‘Moody Monthly’.

Pelosi, born in 1940, was reared in Pre-Vatican II traditional Catholicism. In her childhood and youth, respect for religion and worship was the dominant theme, not only in Catholic circles, but generally in society. Look at the movie, The Irishman, where even killers, drug suppliers, owners of brothels, etc., were respectful of public observances like baptism and matrimony in the Catholic Church. Thus, Pelosi, an enemy of God and America, knows how to wrap herself in tradition. She was reportedly displeased when younger Democrats were high giving each other after the successful vote.

There’s no need to subscribe, a lot of them for some reason, post their articles on the web.

I must disagree with your take on this. It is that ship worn leftist tactic of trying to suppress evangelicals’ votes by saying they are hypocrites if they vote for anyone less than Mother Theresa. And, yes, the Anglican church has gone over the cliff so this is what I would expect of them.

Within the past decade Nancy Pelosi said that the previous Pope was wrong in opposing abortion and birth control.

This had nothing to do with Mike Pence.

It's all about fomenting guilt in believers that support Donald Trump. The guy that wrote the original CT article was simply a wolf in sheep's disguise. Wanting to ravage the flock after getting rid of the guardian.

And was it Nancy Pelosi who denounced President Trump’s Supreme Court picks as being consumed by the Catholic dogma with them?

Pelosi is not Catholic in the sense that she agrees with its teachings. However, she knows how to display the trappings of piety. Protestant examples of this adherence to outward forms include the Clintons and the Rev’rund Jackson.

> RE: I think Christianity Today has just thrown their principles to the wind in order to get Mike Pence in the White House.

>> And what’s to stop the Democrats from impeaching him as well?

The editor has been a Never Trumper, and it shows how ‘left’ this once-iconic Christian magazine has drifted under Satan’s guidance. A good prophet, Mike Thompson of Las Vegas, talks about the 2 sets of satanic forces trying to destroy President Trump. The one is Jezebel/Jeze-baal on the leftist side - represented by HRC, Pelosi, Warren, Ocasio-Cortez and feminists for starters. The other is Pharisee on the right, represented by the “Christian liberal left” and Never Trumpers. President Trump fails their “purity tests” to being a Christian. My former priest is like that. He said because President Trump and Melania didn’t read the words of the Apostles Creed at a funeral, they aren’t Christian!! Both satanically-inspired sides will fail. God wins.

BTW, Adam Schiff was already talking yesterday about investigating VP Pence. He’s next on the impeachment/removal list, and then AG Barr. Schiff and Pelosi won’t stop, no matter if VP Pence meets all the Never Trump purity tests. He’s a danger to the coup-sters so they scheme for his removal as well.
