JFK put forth the argument that it was COURAGEOUS to stand against the tide of one’s party affiliation to do the right thing. I certainly agree with the sentiment, but it is very possible - even likely - they weren't his words. Most of PIC was written by others at the behest of ol' Joe in order to prop up JFK's rather thin résumé. JFK was basically a lazy party boy and wouldn't have had the interest or discipline to write a book.

Indeed. But I was in the fourth grade when I read that book, so I believed that it was JFK. I know better now.
