Collin Peterson was elected on his 4th try. He ran for Congress in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990. He failed to get the nomination in 1988 because he was considered a perennial loser. He came back anyway on that 4th try to knock off GOP incumbent Arlan Stangeland.

The prior GOP nominee, Dave Hughes, is very cash-poor. He has only $18,500 on hand. State Sen. Michelle Fischbach has under $85k. Another candidate is leading in the money race, a Dr. Noel Collis has $129k.

Peterson still has over $900k. Dems are not going to be short on $$, as they have fully directed the biggest $$ to the freshmen members in GOP districts. Last I checked months ago, most will have at minimum $1 million, and likely far more.
