I did not see or hear the Nixon/Kennedy debate. However, my late husband was in a bar in Iowa, I don’t know if with TV or only radio. He said a question was asked about Truman’s use of salty language in the White House. Nixon went into a long comment about how in the White House he would use the kind of language that the dignity of the office required. Kennedy said, “I think that’s Mrs. Truman’s problem.” Husband says with that one exchange, Kennedy won the votes in that Iowa bar.
