By way of comparison, how much does Steyer have?

Steyer is estimated at $1.6b. Even if he spent $1.5b, he’d have $100m left - more than enough for several lifetimes. But I doubt he’d spend that much. Bloomberg, though, could spend $49b and have $1b left. I don’t think he will spend anywhere near $49b, but he will probably spend a few billion. That’s what this Hamlet act was all about - he needed to be sure (1) he needed to run because of the danger from Warren and Sanders and (2) he had a shot at winning, before he committed that kind of money.

There’s also the fact that everyone wants to become president. Long after Jeff Bezos is forgotten, school children will be memorizing the names of US presidents. Then there are the roads and monuments named in honor of presidents. It is truly a pretty big deal, even for the most accomplished of businessmen. We know of even the most minor of Greek kings. Who knows of even the wealthiest of Greek tycoons from antiquity?

Wonder if Bloomberg wants to wrestle the RAT party from Obama.

This isn’t good news for the President. I see it doing one of two things...

Either 1) Bloomberg will win the nomination and be a formidable challenge to Trump or...

2) Bloomberg will force the other lunatics toward the center, in effect “bettering” their chances against Trump.

Bloomberg is no nonsense. He’s been wishy washy as a Pol, but he’s exceedingly smart, very successful and very pragmatic. There’s no fluff there which is perhaps his biggest weakness in this day of “PR” campaigning.

If he gets past the “NY thing” which I think people are wary of, and people get to know him, he’ll be tough.

What I think this really will do is end Biden’s campaign. His moderate status is no longer relevant now and he’s an old senile man. This is going to be one crazy primary.

Trend left to win the Primary

Trend center to win the general election

That is the Democrat rule in effect for more or less forever

Seems to me that this is really too late to make much of an impact. Even if he spends billions. This is for the Democrat nomination, not a general election. There are few independents who will vote in the primaries. Many of the hard-core Democrat voters have already made a decision, and I don’t see how Bloomberg brings something dramatic that would change the game. I’d put the over/under on the number of Bloomberg delegates to the convention at 10.

You could be right. I’m not sure how many Dems have decided yet. But Bloomberg could get a large chunk of people who have decided on the “lesser of the evils” so to speak. So the question is, how many of those voters have “decided” and now will switch to a more moderate candidate that they may believe can beat Trump? In other words, is Bloomberg Biden without the senility?

I didn’t know that Jill Stein was gone. Also, she never got more than 2% of the vote nationally. And only 1% in Socialist(?) Washington, DC. She disaffected some of her Green Party supporters with frankly positive comments about and visit to Russia/Putin. One person I know with relatives in Kiev was really turned off, and then harassed by Stein supporters when she raised questions about this in a forum where Dr. Stein had spoken in this vein.

Just saw his ad on local SF station. It’s every San Franciscan’s wet dream. He’s for the downtrodden, for middle America, for the rich being gouged by taxes (seemed ambivalent on the Silicon Valley “biggies”, I think), not to mention health care for all and “if you like yours, you can keep it”.

All in all, a slam dunk 57 electoral votes from Caliph-phony-a. Assuming he can outpoll Cameltoe Harrass.

You left out raise income taxes on the so-called wealthy and then raise fees and costs surreptitiously to the middle class

Bloomberg - The only male Democrat candidate who could look more ridiculous driving a tank than Mike Dukakis.

He never won the large-sugary-drink war, but don’t ever forget his support for the Ground Zero mosque.

And don’t forget he made sure those term limits went back again before he left office. That was just for him.
