Why the Hell Did Democrats Just Extend the Patriot Act?
The New Republic ^ | 11/20/19 | Sam Adler-Bell

Key provisions of the Patriot Act were set to expire on December 15, including Section 215, the legal underpinning of the call detail records program exposed in the very first Edward Snowden leak...

Are we sure that the Patriot Act is in fact patriotic?

I guess...because the Patriot Act is very, very good at eroding civil liberties?

Because once the FISA Abuse report comes out, it will be too hard politically to renew the program.

Renew it now in a "must pass" continuing resolution spending bill is the typically swampy way to do things.

“Are we sure that the Patriot Act is in fact patriotic?”

One of the biggest misnomers ever.

“There is no truth in Izvestiya and there is no information in Pravda.”

To find patriotism, don’t look in the “Patriot” Act.

I have opposed since it was first proposed.
I suggested then and still believe that securing the borders is a far better Idea.

So there never was a consensus.

Everybody who has ever supported it in words or by vote should be beaten, disenfranchised, and deported, after having “I LOVE BIG BROTHER” tattooed on their forehead.

Um... dems are big government loons. There’s no invasion of personal privacy they believe is off limits. They are the enemy of every real American alive today and all those who fought and/or died protecting or gaining our rights.

The Patriot Act may be an effective tool but it comes at too steep a price.

Seriously, it’s a 3-month “running in place” bill, so it makes sense they included a 3-month extension to something expiring in December, because they don’t want to have that as a separate debate.
