The fact of the matter is that, in waging a scorched earth, no-holds-barred war of “Resistance” against this Administration, it is the Left that is engaged in the systematic shredding of norms and the undermining of the rule of law. This highlights a basic disadvantage that conservatives have always had in contesting the political issues of the day. It was adverted to by the old, curmudgeonly Federalist, Fisher Ames, in an essay during the early years of the Republic.
In any age, the so-called progressives treat politics as their religion. Their holy mission is to use the coercive power of the State to remake man and society in their own image, according to an abstract ideal of perfection. Whatever means they use are therefore justified because, by definition, they are a virtuous people pursing a deific end. They are willing to use any means necessary to gain momentary advantage in achieving their end, regardless of collateral consequences and the systemic implications. They never ask whether the actions they take could be justified as a general rule of conduct, equally applicable to all sides.
Conservatives, on the other hand, do not seek an earthly paradise. We are interested in preserving over the long run the proper balance of freedom and order necessary for healthy development of natural civil society and individual human flourishing. This means that we naturally test the propriety and wisdom of action under a “rule of law” standard. The essence of this standard is to ask what the overall impact on society over the long run if the action we are taking, or principle we are applying, in a given circumstance was universalized – that is, would it be good for society over the long haul if this was done in all like circumstances?
For these reasons, conservatives tend to have more scruple over their political tactics and rarely feel that the ends justify the means. And this is as it should be, but there is no getting around the fact that this puts conservatives at a disadvantage when facing progressive holy far, especially when doing so under the weight of a hyper-partisan media.

THanks for posting the whole thing. I read the live tweets and then watched the speech. We are blessed to have such a man as AG and it is a shame that this allegedly conservative site allows him to be slandered as it does, and just as happened with Jeff Sessions prior, simply because people on the internet don’t have a clue as to what is really going on in the DOJ.
Trump knew what he was doing when he convinced Bill Barr to come in and help drain the swamp and restore confidence in our institutions instead of retiring and spoiling his grandchildren.
Those who wish to understand what AG Barr is all about would do well to read this transcript, as there’s no better way than to listen to his own words.

Bill Barr is a law and order hard a$$ who will pursue corruption aggressively but within the rule of law.
People on this forum accuse him of being “swamp” but nothing could be further from the truth. Swamp creatures are above all butt covering job protectors. Barr does not need this job and only took it at the behest of Trump to help.
Barr understands the deep state, how to use it, even how to manipulate it to his advantage without being a part of it.

I can't help thinking Barr timed this to be dropped just before the IG Horowitz report is dropped, and possibly indictments by Bull Durham. Barr just HAMMERS the congress and the politicized judiciary.This was political battlefield preparation, I have no doubt. Rallying the troops, bugling the charge.
See 11. Out of dozens of memorable quotes, this one stuck in my mind. It was a great speech, battlefield prep. It tells me the IG report and Durham indictments won’t be long now. It’s almost a declaration of war against a rapacious left-wing congress and judiciary. Every minute of the hour-long speech is outstanding.
I juts finished reading his speech and I agree. This time (Yea I know...) I think the hammer is about to fall.

I watched this speech yesterday and it was so excellent; inspiring and informative. He gave background of the 3 branches of government, and how they’ve been abused and perverted by the Demsheviks. He’s got a great sense of humor and is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Same with his speech at Notre Dame, everyone should watch that too if they havne’t yet. I believe there was a thread with that one.
AG Barr’s speech should be required listening for all federal employees and elected officials. A few classes on the Constitution would help also. These would be of much greater benefit to the American people instead of the politicians meetings in how to raise donations and get goodies from lobbyists.
And when it does, I hope it also falls heaby on “The Hammer”!

The Left will not be cured by listening to speeches. They are just secret communists, and they will press on until they are stopped. I interpreted the timing of Barr’s speech to be a declaration of war against the congressional and judicial deep state, so I expect he knows IG Horowitz’s report is dropping very soon, and Durham will not be far behind. He was rallying the troops, steeling them for battle. IMHO.
It’s faster to read a speech, but worth listening to glean the nuance from his delivery. Like when he arched up with the “boogo-booga” look in anticipation of the Left’s reaction. A happy warrior, ready for battle.
