The series in many ways is an education on why government is the way it is. The creators & writers for the show were very well versed in “public choice economics”.

Nobel Prize in economics winner (Late professor of economics at George Mason University - James M. Buchanan . I can’t remember if Tullock got a Nobel also!) below are their most famous work.

Buchanan, James M., and Gordon Tullock. The Calculus of Consent: The Logical Foundations of Constitutional Democracy. Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 1962.

Every episode of the series has a “public choice” issue as part of the storyline.

I don't remember the names of the writers of Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister but read somewhere that their educational background was in Classics (i.e., Greek and Roman civilization).
