Arcane historical point:

All wounded Japanese rescued at sea at Midway carried in their heads dangerous info in their heads regarding the depth of their Midway Defeat.

They all got hospitalized in the same place, the better to keep the Midway Defeat a secret, as nearly as was possible.

They were not officially interned, but....yeah, uh...they were.

The Japanese Leadership absolutely wanted to keep a lid on that.

In Japan, there were basically just rumors.

There were elements within the Imperial Army that did not know until the last days (or months) of the war how badly the Imperial Navy had been set back at Midway.
