Washington Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki donned a "Make America Great Again" hat during the team's visit to the White House on Monday to celebrate its World Series victory.
He also got a big hug from President Trump while wearing the red "MAGA" baseball cap as he put his arms up to acknowledge the crowd.
Trump put his hands on Suzuki's shoulders and hugged him from behind.
I love you all, Suzuki told the crowd. I love you all. Thank you.
What a job he did. I didnt know that was going to happen, Trump said to laughter in the crowd.
Trump, flanked by First Lady Melania Trump, addressed an enormous crowd on the South Lawn of the White House, cheering the team for capturing the hearts of baseball fans across the region and across the country during the past season.
America fell in love with the Nats baseball, Trump said. Thats all they wanted to talk about that and impeachment. I like Nats baseball much more.
You reminded us all why baseball is truly Americas past time, the president continued.
Most of the Nationals players and coaches were in attendance on Monday for the White House ceremony, which has become a divisive tradition in the Trump era.
Eight key Nationals contributors were not included in the White House list of attendees and missed Mondays celebration. Those absent included star third baseman Anthony Rendon, center fielders Victor Robles and Michael A. Taylor, infielder Wilmer Difo and pitchers Sean Doolittle, Joe Ross, Javy Guerra and Wander Suero.

Doolittle said he wasn't going.
You saw him there?
I saw someone who was his spitting image. It wasn’t the best view, but it sure did look like him.
Yeah, if you can find the video, it’s right at the end as the guys were going in. Trump moves to the left side of the balcony (facing the White House) and speaks to a couple of the players standing there. There’s a third player that he stops and talks to, and I swear it was Doolittle.
I’d feel better if somebody else can look at it and either confirm or deny.
I looked at the video again and I see him at the beginning, too, when the band starts to play. He’s standing to the left in a light colored suit.
Yup. My team is in the same division and always admired the dude. Good for him and any Trumper sports pro I always respect and look out from now on..
“Doolittle wants to show support for Dolan’s two mothers who do extensive work in the LGBTQ community.”
PUKE
I’m glad now that ass clown stayed home.
Doolittle said he could not go because of Trump.
Doolittle said he could not go because of Trump.
Of the 25 players on Washington’s World Series roster, 18 were in attendance.
The no-shows at the White House besides Doolittle, Rendon and Robles included
Joe Ross, Javy Guerra, Wander Suero, Wilmer Difo and Michael A. Taylor
The above numbers don’t add correctly to 25.
And, of course, Trump is a socially moderate NYer with no history of anti-gay activities and his administration has done absolutely no harm to those mothers, but one can’t let facts get in the way when making accusations of bigotry.
Hmmm... Several team members did not show for whatever reason. Doolittle is an outspoken liberal critic of the President.
So... I hear he wasn’t there.... now I hear he was there...
Zim said some nice words. Zuke wore a MAGA hat.
I’m pretty sure I saw Doolittle on the video.
