House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Omaha Saturday night to speak at the Nebraska Democratic Party's annual Morrison-Exon fundraiser.
The Nebraska Democratic Party said Saturday's turnout was one of the biggest crowds the event has ever seen.
Pelosi urged more women and more diversity in Congress. She pledged $1,000 to the Frank Lamere Grassroots Fellows and Candidates of Color Fund.
The speaker praised rural America and mentioned Nebraskan farmer frustration over the trade war.
"We're fighting for the hardworking Nebraska families left behind in the GOP agenda -- and they are -- and for Nebraska farmers struggling under Trump's trade recklessness and big oil assault on ethanol," Pelosi said.
Pelosi also spoke of the impeachment investigation, she said it was important to protect whistleblowers and the Constitution. She said the impeachment investigation is not about dislike or disagreement. Pelosi said it's a matter of facts.
"What I said when others were urging earlier and swifter action, I said when we have the facts we'll be ready. And we're ready," Pelosi said.
Pelosi laid out her three main focuses for legislation in 2020: lowering the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, increasing paychecks and building infrastructure "in a green way," and reducing the role of "dark special interest money" in government.
The event's theme was centered around the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. Pelosi said the theme was fitting since 2019 is also the first time more than a hundred women are in the House of Representatives.
Like the old "Variety" joke of a movie "with a cast of thousands!":
Henry Thousands
Mary Thousands
Little Jimmy and Nancy Thousands . . .
I looked under the cushions on my sofa and it's not there either.......I suspect if we can locate those missing socks, we'll find that page too...........LOL!
