I’m still trying to figure out how Common Core math prepares one for accounting or engineering.

My youngest son had a teacher that constantly singled him out for “abuse”... he was ridiculed and mocked by this teacher unrelentlessly...
One day he came home with a math problem to solve for homework... it was something like this:
789/446, estimate the answer, and there was a long drawn out formula for estimating..
Well, I told him to put down 1 as the answer. I then told him that was an estimate, not a very good one, but an estimate nonetheless...
well, we got a note sent home telling us the teacher wanted to have a conference over this, so off to the school I went.
The teacher was very upset that my son made a mockery of his methods. I told him that his answer was an estimate, not a very good estimate, but and estimate nonetheless.
The teacher lost it and screamed at me, “ What do you know about estimating?”..
I then produced my business card with my name and title under my name..... “ Estimator”...
he got his A and the teacher never bothered him again
