Although I don’t see evidence in this version of James’ story, I read somewhere else that he is a twin. I think it referred to ‘James and Jude’. If that’s the case, I suspect the mom wanted on of each and decided to start calling one of them (James) by a girl’s name. Sick momma. (And Jude should be very happy she decided to only mess up one of the kids)
