I grew up in a town where most of my friends were first or second generation Americans. Our grandparents were mainly from eastern Europe. The old folks spoke the old language, and (somewhat) clung to the old ways.
And they held old-world animosities. (You wouldn’t want to get my Hungarian grandparents started about the Romanians, for example.)
Here’s the thing. All of that was gone in the grandchildren. 100% assimilation.
But the opposite is true with Muslims. Many studies have should that the children of Muslim immigrants are, in general, more radical and less tolerant then their parents. Here’s one such study out of the UK.
