“ Rest. Don’t we all long for it? It is found in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Peace with God—that’s what America needs.”

He comes up wit this random statement at the end of the Bible piece.

I think about it every time I’m out on Sunday. If I’m visiting someone I still think there’ll be no traffic. It’s Sunday.

The whole world is out on Sunday. They don’t spend the day with their family after church. All the stores are open.

It’s out of order

When I was a kid, in Richmond, VA in the post WW II years, my family would go to church on Sunday, then go to a Morrison’s Cafeteria for lunch and then, on nice days, go “to ride,” as my mother would say, in the country. We drove all over Virginia in a 1937 Ford two-door sedan.

After we moved to the country in 1951, we discontinued Sunday rides - we were already in the country!

We restarted that “tradition” after we moved to Florida, and continued it until I went off to college in 1959 - maybe not every Sunday, but most Sundays.

Was kinda neat, as I recall. A tradition I was not able to replicate with my own family - first ex-wife and kids were not interested in going “to ride” in the country on Sunday afternoon - too many other distractions.

Oh, well!
