Well it is legally defined now.
In the good old days if you said something thing hateful, there might be personal consequences, but not govt consequences.
It is actually liberal blasphemy laws.
We’re seeing a return to tribal ethics. The social rules that are considered necessary for society and the safety of the tribe become equally important as traditional care/harm ethics like “don’t murder, don’t beat up random people”.
We see this tribal social morality in Islam, where you can beat, jail or kill a woman who won’t wear hijab or execute the infidel who defies the official social code.
They frame it as “your words/blasphemy/disbelief is equal to an attack on all sacred believers”.
In social justice, they’re using their own version of it. “You’re invalidating our existence”! (AKA, you want to wipe us out.) Or they’ll actually say, “You’re killing us, you want us dead.” Now their violence against the blasphemer is considered self-defense.
