Its fun to watch people spin out of control over this choice of locales for the G7. There is no emoluments clause violation because there are no foreign gifts or other benefits that would benefit Trump directly. He’s obviously been losing business at the Doral because wealthy liberals are boycotting his resorts which is just another indication of how much wealth he has actually sacrificed rather than gained as President.
I think the real outrage is more visceral with the libs. I call it the Goldfinger syndrome. There is a great scene where Odd Job destroys the expensive statue at the swanky golf resort (club) with his hat to show Bond he better not mess with his boss, Goldfinger. When Bond quips, “What will the club secretary say?”, Goldfinger just smiles and says, “Nothing Mr. Bond, I own the club”.
What they really hate is that Trump will be able to invite the other 6 ordinary world leaders to take photos in front of the Trump Doral Country Club sign and walk them over the manicured grounds and entice them with the luxury rooms and spas, and provide them the trappings of wealth that they can only admire from afar. And then he can tell them with a smile “I hope you all enjoy your stay while you are my guest. I own the club.”
