And while Chicago has drawn widespread attention for its soaring murder total in recent years, its murder rate in 2018 about 21 murders and non-negligent manslaughters per 100,000 residents was less than half of the rates in St. Louis (about 61 per 100,000) and Baltimore (about 51 per 100,000). The FBI notes that various factors might influence a particular areas crime rate, including its population density and economic conditions. What thing do all of those cities have in common? Seems to me there's a huge elephant in the room that no one wants to see.
