If I'm going to buy solar panels I'm going to build a system to go off the grid entirely, not to power the grid for the self-righteous in the state capital.
Unless batteries are illegal in California for being anti-social.

Yeah this doesn't make any sense. People connect generators to run various parts of their electric system as they see fit.
If the power from the solar system can be put on the grid at all it has to be converted from DC to AC, and that means you should be able to use that power as needed for your home and not connected to the grid while the sun shines.

In CT a solar panel system that is dis-connected from the grid does not qualify for the subsidies and/or tax credits.
That is the reason I refused to install them.
I have no clue what the rules are in CA.
