Washington State University: Catch 22, No Guns for You

To those who wish the population disarmed, gun laws do not need to make sense, be reasonable, efficient, or effective. Any reduction in the number of legal gun owners, guns, or use of guns is seen as positive.

It is why this bit of insanity at Washington State University (WSU) is unlikely to be addressed. Washington State University is primarily in the Southeast corner of Washington state, located at Pullman, Washington. It is an agricultural and rural area. Guns are popular. Even so, WSU has a very restrictive gun policy. From wsu.edu:

WAC 504-26-213 Firearms and dangerous weapons

No student may carry, possess, or use any firearm, explosive (including fireworks), dangerous chemical, or any dangerous weapon on university property or in university-approved housing. Airsoft guns and other items that shoot projectiles are not permitted in university-approved housing. Students wishing to maintain a firearm on campus for hunting or sporting activities must store the firearm with the Washington State University department of public safety

The Washington State University police maintained an area for students to store their firearms, where the students could check out and check back in their firearms, as desired, for gun related activities. It was popular enough the WSU police are reported to have designed a portion of their new building to be used for this purpose. The WSU police moved into their new headquarters in 2016.

Then Washington State passed the controversial I-639 referendum. The referendum calls for universal background checks.

The combination of rules, laws, and the referendum combine to form an legal barrier.

Following their stated rules, the organic chemistry lab is illegal for students to use. That's ok, chemistry is too hard for snowflakes anyway.

My youngest daughter graduated from WSU. We chose that school because they have (or had) a very loyal alumni. It was not unusual for a grandparent/parent/child to all have gone to WSU. The grounds were lovely.

The year before my daughter graduated the president of the college retired. They put in his place a black man, who, as the story goes, walked around campus and commented on how there were too many white people there. So, he imported a lot of urban blacks to the campus; and, campus crime rose significantly. A friend of my daughter, whose parents had both attended WSU, got beaten up while walking on campus. He was beaten so badly that he had to be hospitalized. This just was not the school we had originally sent our child to; and that know-nothing black guy just didn't appreciate the "family" type atmosphere of the school.

It has fallen in rank in academics as well. It really is too bad that this has happened to, what was once, a very nice school.

As an aside: WSU was founded to help the children of the farm families that are a big part of the eastern portion of Washington state, to have a place to go to college that was close to home. Also, they have a very nice agriculture dept. It is unfortunate that the Left has ruined a special place.

I’ve been there a number of times, the last time 11 or 12 years ago. Sorry to here the state of what was once a fine school.
